About Alana D. Horner

I grew up here in St. Petersburg, Florida, and while attending St. Petersburg Collegiate High School, I received both my high school diploma and my associates degree. I then attended Florida State University, where I earned my B.S. in Psychology and B.A. in International Affairs, with a minor in Criminology and a Certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

I was also an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduating in 2015, I returned to my hometown of St. Pete and earned my Law degree from Stetson University College of Law. My first introduction to elder law issues occurred at a young age when my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Over the years I saw my dad struggle as the main caregiver for his elderly parents, especially with my Grandma as she progressed through her diagnosis. This gave me first-hand insight into the ups-and-downs that families often experience with aging loved ones. My interest in the practice of elder law was triggered in my second year of law school when I took an elder law seminar.

In my last year at Stetson, I was fortunate to participate in a Judicial Externship with the Probate Division of the Circuit Court. My experiences observing hearings, discussing cases with the probate judge, and researching and preparing memos deepened my understanding of elder law and solidified my desire to pursue a career helping the elderly and their families.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and outdoor activities, yoga, reading, snowboarding in the winter, spending time with my extended family, and cheering on the Florida State Seminoles. Additionally, I am an avid traveler and my most recent adventures include hiking to Machu Picchu, Peru, and exploring parts of Southeast Asia.
