Anne M. Wedge-McMillen has over fourteen (14) years of experience in the criminal law arena. Ms. Wedge-McMillen worked as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, Florida, an Assistant Statewide Prosecutor for the Florida Attorney General's Office and a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Florida.
This combined prosecutorial experience has provided her a very in-depth understanding of the criminal case investigative process and strategy used in litigating criminal cases. Having conducted over fifty (50) jury trials ranging from simple first degree misdemeanor cases of Driving Under the Influence and the like all the way to charges as serious as First Degree Murder and Drug Trafficking, Ms.
Wedge-McMillen has experience that is matched by few in the Central Florida legal community. She has also prosecuted very difficult cases such as Conspiracy involving wiretaps and Racketeering involving organized crime. Over the last five years, Ms. Wedge-McMillen has specialized in investigation and prosecution of what are commonly known as "Pill Mills.
" Having been tasked with assisting law enforcement in investigating these organizations and ultimately their prosecution, Ms. Wedge-McMillen has developed a unique understanding of regulatory law that will now assist her criminal defense clients that might be facing similar charges. Ms. Wedge-McMillen has advised the following state and federal law enforcement taskforces on this complex area of law and medicine: the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Department of Health, the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Investigative Unit, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation in Orlando, Florida.
She has had extensive opportunities to observe and participate in countless investigations and prosecutions involving the smuggling, both within the United States and internationally, of controlled substances, human growth hormone, and anabolic steroids. Ms. Wedge-McMillen is such a source of knowledge on state and federal healthcare law and controlled substance laws she has been asked to instruct others on these subjects.
She has given presentations for many agencies including the Florida Department of Health, the Florida Prosecuting Attorney's Association, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Attorney General's Office of Statewide Prosecution. Msr. Wedge-McMillen has a vast knowledge of the gang and organized crime units in Florida.
During 2008-2009, Ms. Wedge-McMillen was appointed as an advisor to the Statewide Grand Jury on this subject. She also assisted in training law enforcement and other state agencies, including many prosecutorial agencies, on recognition and presence of gangs in Florida. She has also instructed these agencies on Florida's gang laws and how to use the RICO statute successfully in the prosecution of gangs and other organized crime units.
She has instructed, as an independent contractor, state and federal law enforcement agencies in Georgia, New York, Tennessee, Texas, Nevada, and Florida (and others) on gang, wiretap and racketeering law. Anne was most recently invited to teach as a lead instructor for a Gang Wiretaps training seminar where she highlighted the use of wiretaps as an investigative tool in targeting criminal street gangs and provided in-depth instruction on the legal requirements of wiretap investigations, such as the affidavits and intercepts orders which are required to complete a successful investigation.
Ms. Wedge-McMillen is a member of Philanthropic Educational Organization or PEO. This is a woman's group focused both nationally and internationally that supports educations opportunities for women. Ms. Wedge-McMillen is also a member of the Orange County Bar Association and the Central Florida Association of Women Lawyers.
