Experience Powers is a shareholder at Mockler Dorsett, P.A., where his practice is devoted to Circuit Civil Mediation. He brings a strong background in various business matters to his mediation practice. Powers focuses in the areas of business and contractual disputes, real property-related matters, including homeowner association disputes, and in trust and estate issues.
Powers graduated in 2001 from Emory Law School and began his legal career as a corporate attorney in Birmingham, Alabama. For the majority of his career, Powers has served in the Tampa Bay area as counsel for and as a key member of management for a group of privately held companies engaged primarily in the citrus and timber industries.
He has extensive experience with business contractual issues and corporate formation and governance. He has also been involved in various real estate matters, including land use, zoning, and landlord and tenant issues, as well as in tax and estate planning and agricultural cooperative matters.
Powers currently serves on the board of directors of the Lake Region Packing Association, and has been on the board of the Pasco County Economic Development Council. Powers is a member of the Florida Bar, the Alabama State Bar, the federal district courts for the Middle District of Alabama, and the Middle District of Florida, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar, and the American Society of Mediators.
Educational Background Powers graduated from the Emory University School of Law in 2001. Powers focused on business and tax related courses, and also participated in Emory’s trial techniques program. Academic honors included the Dean’s list, and Powers also was involved with the Bankruptcy Developments Journal, where he served as Managing Editor.
Powers graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1998, Cum Laude , where he majored in Economics and minored in Business Administration. He also attended Vanderbilt's London program.
