About Cory James Person

Cory J. Person is a Senior Associate at Butler Pappas. Cory is a member of the firm's liability and labor & employment departments, joining the firm in 2009.  Prior to joining Butler Pappas, he specialized in commercial litigation, labor & employment law, and general civil litigation. Cory is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida.

  Since 2007, Cory has served on the board of the George Edgecomb Bar Association, and is presently serving as President through June 30, 2014. Cory was the 2012 recipient of the George Edgecomb Bar Association's President's Award for his outstanding service to the organization.  In March, 2013, Cory was appointed to the Florida Bar's Judicial Nominating Procedures Committee, for its July, 2013 through June, 2016 term.

 Recently, Cory has been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer Rising Star in the area of Civil Litigation. Cory graduated from Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude , in Political Science and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.

  While in law school, Cory served as president of the UNC Broun National Trial Team and UNC Trial Law Academy, and was Managing Editor of the UNC First Amendment Law Review.  In addition, Cory was a recipient of the Gressman-Pollitt award for exemplary skill in Appellate Advocacy. Cory is the author of Ignorance Isn't Bliss: What Employers Need To Know About The Immigration Reform Control Act, Lawyer Magazine, December 2007, and has co-authored Case Notes for the Labor and Employment Law Section of The Florida Bar.

Prior to law school, Cory served as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  Among the awards Cory received for his service are the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
