Eric’s practice focuses on complex business, commercial, municipal/governmental, construction, aviation, and real estate litigation before Federal and State courts, as well as mediation and arbitration. Eric has served on the Dade County Bar Association Board as a Director since 2012 and was elected to the DCBA Executive Committee for 2014-2015.
He was also appointed to the Florida Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Aviation Law. In addition, Eric participates on the Beacon Council Aviation Committee, and is spearheading the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Aviation Task Force initiative. His commercial and municipal litigation experience is broad and often addresses complex issues.
He has successfully represented a large bank in commercial foreclosures of hotel properties; government entities in property damage claims, code enforcement actions, breach of contract matters, and law enforcement civil liability claims; tenants and landlords in breach of lease and eviction actions; condominium and homeowner associations in lien foreclosure and breach of contract suits; a non-profit museum against a challenge by neighborhood groups to its public property lease; and manufacturers against product liability claims.
His construction litigation experience has involved the successful representation of government entities in claims for defective stormwater system construction, the representation of architects and engineers against professional malpractice and defective design claims, and commercial and residential property owners in defective construction and workmanship claims.
Eric is the firm’s information technology partner and manages the firm’s vendors and information technology systems. He also employs advanced technology in his practice to better represent clients and manage costs. He frequently uses advanced presentation techniques in the courtroom to present clients’ arguments clearly, using a combination of oral argument and visual evidence.
In addition, Eric is very experienced with e-discovery techniques and has managed document discovery and review in a matter involving more than 3.2 million documents. Eric’s aviation experience is unique. Eric spent over 11 years working full-time in the industry as a pilot, flight instructor, airframe & powerplant technician, and maintenance manager.
Before law school, Eric began working for Northwest Airlines as a heavy maintenance technician and was promoted to management, where he was responsible for managing a union workforce performing heavy maintenance on Douglas DC-9 and DC-10, Boeing 727 and 757, and Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft. He also supervised a maintenance contractor in Singapore on behalf of the airline.
In addition to flying and maintaining his own 1961 Cessna 310-F aircraft for several years, Eric has flown commercial cargo flights and taught beginning and advanced pilots how to fly.
