About Jessica Catherine Roberge Buonauro

Initially, I would like to thank you for visiting my AVVO account and I look forward to working with you to resolve any issues regarding yourself or a child in your life!   I am originally from Worcester, Massachusetts.  My Father and Mother moved our family to Osceola County, Florida when I was a young child.

I attended St. John Vianney Catholic School in Orlando from kindergarten through eighth grade and attended Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando for my pre-college education.  I attended Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, graduating with a major in business marketing and a minor in theatre arts.

Post college graduation I applied to Barry University School of Law and was accepted into the graduating class of 2006.  During my tenure at Barry, I received book awards in Adoption Law and Advanced Family Law Seminar and prior to graduation I completed the requirements for the Children’s and Family Law Concentration program.

A book award is presented to the student who received the highest grade in the class.   After passing the Florida Bar in 2006, I was offered the position of Assistant Juvenile Public Defender in Orange and Osceola Counties.  I worked as a Juvenile Public Defender from August 2006 until November 2007 at which time an opportunity arose to defend children as a private juvenile defense attorney.

During my tenure as an Assistant Public Defender, I practiced only Juvenile Delinquency law and penned writs of habeas corpus, one of which led to a published opinion regarding the issue of juveniles being held in direct contempt, see S.B. v. State, 940 So.2d 576 (5th DCA 2006). In January 2008, I opened my own practice, Jessica C.

R. Buonauro, P.A., where I contnued to practice criminal and juvenile defense. In January 2009, I had the distinct opportunity to argue an issue of first impression to the 5th District Court of Appeal regarding sealing and/or expunging criminal and civil arrest records.  After my arguments in Kanji v.

State, 4 So.3d 65 (5th DCA 2009), the 5th District Court of Appeal ruled that although a Judge has "sole discretion" to deny the sealing or expunging a criminal record, it is not unfettered discretion and he or she may not arbitrarily deny a sealing or expunction.  While exercising his or her discretion, the Judge must consider all the facts and circumstances and may not deny the petition based solely on the nature of the crime.

As of March 1, 2015, Jessica C.R. Buonauro, P.A. has been renamed Roberge Law, P.A. I am dedicated to my work and believe that EVERYONE deserves zealous advocation when they are charged with a crime in the State of Florida.
