The Florida Guardian ad Litem Program works with children who are under the protective supervision of the state due to abuse, abandonment, or neglect. The Program has party status in dependency cases, and the Program Attorney is responsible for advocating for the best interest of the child (as understood by the Guardian ad Litem volunteer) from the time the child is sheltered to either reunification with the parent or adoption.

Guardian ad Litem volunteers are from the general community and are the public's window into the child welfare system.
