I'm married since 1971 and have two sons and six grandchildren. Both my sons are medical doctors. One is a thoracic surgeon and the other an intervention cardiologist. I am originally from Manzanillo, Cuba, and from age 15 until 1999 I lived in Lansing, Michigan, where I went to school, worked, got married and had children.
Since 1999 I am a resident of Florida. I served in the United States Armed Forces between 1969 and 1971. I am admitted to the Florida and Michigan bars. I am also fluent is Spanish. I have Of Counsel to the Sanchez-Medina, Gonzalez, Quesada, Lage, Crespo, Gomez, Machado & Preira LLP (SMGQ Law) since 2010.
From 1994 through 2009 I was Assistant General Counsel for the Latin America, Africa and Middle East Operations (LAAM) of General Motors Corporation. I also served as an Assistant Attorney General in the State of Michigan from 1979 through 1994, where I was the Assistant in Charge of the Special Litigation Division.
Also during 1979 I was in-house counsel to Auto Owners Insurance Company in Lansing, Michigan, where prior to graduating from law school I had previously occupied positions in the underwriting and personnel departments. I maintain a general practice, but pricipally focused on international and cross-border commercial and civil issues, as well as on domestic commercial, real estate, probate, family law and wills and estates.
My 15 years working in the LAAM operations of General Motors provided me with significant experience in the international and cross-border issues. My prior experience with the Michigan Attorney General's Office exposed me to a wide range of domestic issues, and during the last 5 years I have handled many domestic issues in the areas where I practice.
