Having an attorney is one of the most important pieces of representing yourself and your interests in a case or dispute and when entering into contract negotiations.  During my time with the Public Defenders Office, I was always surprised when someone would come to court facing lengthy prison sentences intending to represent themselves.

  With the system often skewed against them, people need someone fighting for them who know the law, the procedure, and how to obtain the results they want.  The same is true of civil matters; even where jail time isn't a factor, for many people being sued or using the courts to demand justice for themselves the outcome can have a dramatic impact on their lives.

  I have also represented people who didn't read the fine print when entering into a contract and were surprised later to find out they didn't have the rights they thought the did or were required to do more than they intended to agree to. Having a lawyer can mean the difference between going to jail and leaving your loved ones for many years and a case being dismissed or resolved favorably.

  It can mean the difference between receiving a monetary judgment from the court and having the case thrown out for procedural defects.  It can even mean not needing to go to court later, by making sure contracts and paperwork are correct, and in order now. Why, then, do people not hire lawyers?  Often the costs are prohibitive and attorneys often treat clients as piggy banks rather than people.

In my practice, I am committed to keeping my services affordable while fighting in every possible way to achieve my clients' goals.  Practicing for years in the Public Defender's Office has left me with a healthy skepticism of attorneys charging hundreds of dollars per hour (and then even overbilling clients) as well as a deep respect for the integrity and rights of individuals who need help but can't afford traditional law firm fees.

  I am also passionate about the work I do.  Representing individuals faced with years in jail, or even life in prison or capital punishment, I have always believed that ANY case is the most important to the client and they rely on me to do everything in my power to protect them and advance their rights and goals.
