About Sherrille Diane Akin

A DeLand native, Sherrille "Sherri" D. Bailey Akin is an attorney practicing elder law, estate planning, probate, guardianship and trust administration, and fiduciary litigation in DeLand, Florida. She is admitted to practice in Florida and Ohio. She is a graduate of Stetson University, Stetson University College of Law (cum laude) and the Univesity of Florida College of Law where she received her LLM in Taxastion.

She was a member of the Florida Probate and Guardianship Rules Committee of the Florida Bar and is past-chair of the Estate and GIft Tax Committee of the Columbus Bar Association.  She is active with the Florida Bar, Volusia County Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, as well as a number of area organizations including the Rotary Club of DeLand, the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce, the DeLand Garden Club, the Lake Winnemissett Area Civic Association, Volusia/Flagler YMCA, Volusia County Tiger Bay and New Covenant Baptist Church.

She serves her community as Board Member and Treasurer of Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida, a Legal Services Corporation non-profit organization that provides legal services to low resource and jeopardized persons in a twelve-county area that includes Volusia, Flagler, Brevard and Seminole Counties, and as a Board Member of Northeast Florida Health Services providing quality, low-cost medical care to low income persons residing in Volusia County, Florida.

Ms. Akin is a frequent speaker on estate planning, estate tax, ethics, and issues encountered by senior citizens.
