Prior to attending law school Mr Gaines worked for the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, DC. There, Mr Gaines conducted financial analytics and data mining for the banking supervision department. Mr Gaines also assisted with data continuity planning post 9/11. While attending the University of Miami School of Law, Mr Gaines co-founded the law school’s Black Law Review.
While attending law school, Mr Gaines interned for the Florida Rural Legal Services which provided legal services for low incomes members of the community. Additionally, Mr Gaines interned with the Fourth District Court of Appeal for the State of Florida and assisted with document review, case analysis and research.
Mr Gaines also interned with the 15th Circuit Public Defenders Office representing individuals who had been criminally charged by protecting their constitutional rights. After graduating from law school, Mr Gaines worked for a boutique law firm located in Fort Myers, FL in its civil litigation department.
Mr Gaines acquired his experience in real estate litigation by assisting with landlord tenant disputes and foreclosure defense.
