About Tyler James Obenauf

Tyler Obenauf previously worked for nine years at the Public Defender’s Office in Palm Beach County. During his tenure at the Public Defender’s Office, Tyler represented clients in the juvenile, county, and circuit court divisions. Throughout his career, Tyler has handled various cases with charges ranging from drug possession to capital sexual battery and attempted murder.

Based on his longevity in the office, Tyler served as a senior juvenile attorney, mentoring public defenders who were recently assigned to the juvenile division. During his time handling felony cases in circuit court, Tyler was division lead responsible for training new attorneys, assisting in case preparation, and dealing with various administrative issues.

During his time at the Public Defender’s Office, Tyler tried over 45 jury trials to verdict, as well as handling hundreds of non-jury trials and motion hearings before various judges. Tyler routinely balanced a caseload of approximately 100 clients. Before coming to Florida, Tyler graduated from the University of New Hampshire School of Law (formerly Franklin Pierce Law Center) in Concord, New Hampshire in May, 2009.

While still a student, Tyler was a Rule 36 Attorney (student attorney) and represented clients charged with criminal offenses throughout New Hampshire. During his summers, Tyler worked for the New Hampshire Public Defender, as well as the Georgia Capital Defenders gaining experience in investigations, mitigation, and motion writing.

During his time in law school, Tyler was active in the Student Bar Association and was a Co-Chair of the Public Interest Coalition that helped sponsor students with demonstrated dedication to various public interest causes. Tyler is a cum laude graduate of the State University of New York College at Oneonta with degrees in Political Science and History.
